(ECNS)-- A report released in Beijing on Saturday said that the world is witnessing a comprehensive revival of nuclear energy, and at the current pace of construction, China would become the global leader in operational nuclear power capacity by 2030.
Titled China Nuclear Energy Development Report (2025), the report was jointly compiled by the China Nuclear Energy Association, China National Nuclear Corporation Strategic Planning and Research Institute, and China Intelligence Science and Technology uation Research Center.
According to data, by the end of 2024, China had 57 nuclear power units in commercial operation with a total installed capacity of 59.76 million kilowatts, ranking third in the world. It also had 28 nuclear power units under construction with a total installed capacity of 33.7 million kilowatts, maintaining the world's largest scale of nuclear power development for 18 consecutive years.
The report noted that, based on the current construction speed and momentum, China is on track to become the world's largest operator of nuclear power by 2030.
It highlighted new progress in the country's international nuclear energy cooperation, including collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency, active participation in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project, and opening 12 nuclear research facilities and experimental platforms — including its Advanced Research Reactor — to the world. Partnerships with countries like Russia, France, and Kazakhstan have also been expanding and deepening.
